EMPLOYMENT CONSULTANT

 

 

Job Summary:

To provide assessment, counseling, and referral services to youth that are underemployed or have their employment threatened.

 

 

Reports To:

Program Coordinator.

 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

1.      Ability to conduct Employment Needs Assessment to determine client strengths, capacities, personal issues/barriers and client goals when needed.

2.      Identify those clients who are self-sufficient and those who may need assisted services and/or programs.

3.      Assist clients with realistic and relevant Return to Work Action Plans.

4.      Determine client need and make appropriate internal and/or external referrals based on entry criteria.

5.      Provide client with up-to-date local, provincial, and national labor market information.

6.      Provide employment counseling services to clients who have identified the need for employment counseling interventions in their Return to Work Action Plan.

7.      Provide services to assist clients in the development of Skill Development Plans.

8.      Develop and deliver employment related workshops.

9.      Administer and interpret career development tools.

10. Maintain accurate and necessary client documentation.

11. Represent the YEC and NYSA as necessary at intra and inter agency meetings.

12. Attend team meetings.

13. Other assigned related duties.


 

 

 

 

Qualifications

 

 

 

 

 

Education, Training and Experience:

Relevant training and/or experience in career development and experience in providing employment assessment, referral services, and counseling services, particularly to youth.

 

Qualifications needed are a minimum of an under-graduate degree in Social Work (BSW), Counselling, Child and Youth Care, Education or related fields. Preference will be given to those with training and experience in current career development, and/or instructional techniques.

 

 

 

Job Skills and Abilities:

§         Good interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills

§         Knowledge of Service Canada and MEIA benefits

§         Knowledge of employment barriers and youth specific issues

§         Knowledge of employment assessment processes and employment counseling techniques

§         Awareness of and access to a range of employment assistance services, including diagnostic assessment service providers

§         Knowledge of local, provincial, and national labor market and how to acquire labor market information

§         Familiarity with local region and community employment and employment related programs and services

§         Knowledge of the Job Loss Cycle

§         Ability to understand and communicate in a way that recognizes socio-cultural diversity

§         Computer literate and the ability to manage data using MS Access

Successful completion of a Criminal Records Check.  Driver’s license and use of a vehicle may be required.
