History:

 

NYSA is a community based, not for profit, charitable society that delivers services to youth ages 13 to 30 years. Since January 29,1969, it has provided a range of residential and non-residential services to youth and young adults in the Nanaimo Regional District. Programming currently includes: employment counseling and training, wage subsidy programs, life skill and transitional planning services, meal programs, a newspaper, and recreation and leisure services.

NYSA volunteers, staff, board members and community partners represent a broad cross-section of our community. Community partnerships, built upon the strengths within our community, have been forged with: Human Resources Development Canada; the Ministries of Environment, Social Development & Economic Security, Children & Families, and Community Development, cooperatives & Volunteers; the B.C. Housing Management Commission; Association of Service Providers for Employability & Career Training; School District No. 68; Parks & Recreation and the city of Nanaimo.
