The intent of
NYSA’s Youth Residence is to provide safe, supportive, and
affordable housing for youth between 16 and 19 years of age. The
residence is a drug, alcohol, and violence free environment.
NYSA’s Youth
Residence is located at 1001 Waddington Road. There are 13 studio
units available for single youth, 6 two bedroom units available for
single parenting youth and 1 wheelchair accessible unit for a single
youth. There is a laundry room, community room, computer room, and
storage area available for tenants only. A play area is provided for
children living in the complex. There is also an outdoor basketball
court, a garden space, and parking available.
A person is
eligible for housing subsidy if their household income falls below
an amount set annually by BC Housing and if their rent exceeds 30%
of their income. This means, that if you receive BC Benefits you
will not pay more than the cost allowed for shelter. Applicants are
assessed for their current need for housing based on criteria which
includes the applicant’s income, safety concerns related to
current living situation, and personal requirements. This ensures
that priority is given to applicants in the greatest need. When
there is an available vacancy, applicants with the most need will be
screened and then invited to an interview.
